SHREVEPORT, LA - A Memorial Service for Ronald Winston Andersen, 74, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Elks Lodge No. 122, 310 E Preston Street Shreveport, LA 71105, with Chaplain Tony Nations officiating. There will be a reception and covered dish at the lodge following the service. Ron was born May 22, 1942 in Teaneck, NJ to Eleanor Marjorie Williams Andersen and Ralph Holbeck Andersen and passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus at Aime Hospice in Shreveport April 29, 2017 after a brief illness. He graduated Seacrest High School class of 1960, Del Ray Beach, FL where he played the Trumpet in the band and was a member of the Latin Club. After graduating High School, Ron enlisted in the United States Air Force and through his exemplary efforts retired as Chief Master Sargent, the heist rank a noncommissioned officer can hold. Throughout his Air Force career, Ron traveled throughout the world, with his most memorable duty stations in Germany and Europe. While serving his country Ron attended college at night. He began at Palm Beach Junior College where he graduated in 1962 with Associate of Arts Degree in Mathematics; there he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Fraternity and Sigma Epsilon Fraternity; from there he graduated from the University of Miami in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics; Ron went on to finish up his college at Louisiana Tech with a Master's Degree in Counseling. After retiring from the USAF, he returned to Shreveport, LA. He had a lot of hobbies, some of which were throwing darts, during which time he competed in Las Vegas, International Dart Tournament, and the Dallas International Dart Classic. Ron was a Club Master Bridge Player, and he loved a good game of Chess. His mathematical mind was well suited to calculating strategies for playing and winning. He was initiated into Shreveport Elks Lodge #122 on September 28, 1989, and held the office of Lodge Secretary in 2007, and was an active member until his death. Ron was an active supporter of the Elks lodge #122, the National Republican Committee, A lifetime member, of the National Rifle Association, and various other organizations. Ron was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, where he served on the offering committee. The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff at Aime Hospice and the 6th floor Stroke Unit at WK Pierremont Hospital for their loving care, and to Dr. Scott McRight.
