A Memorial Services was held for Mr. Ronald “Ronnie,” Gene Dees, age 83, at Pleasure Point Baptist Church, 495 Peterson Road, Homer, LA, on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Chuck Johnston and Rev. William Sikes. A fellowship at the church followed the service.
Ronnie was born June 26, 1941, in Monroe, LA, to Jessie Bryant and Bertie Mae Evans Dees. He entered into rest surround by his “three girls” on August 27, 2024, in Homer, LA. Ronnie served the country he loved in the US Army. He was honorably discharged after three months of service due to a horrendous auto accident his wife, Ethel and unborn child, Donna, were involved in. Ronnie finished out his service for the next six years. He is a graduate of Ouachita High School and attended NLU where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering. Ronnie was a avid sports statistics fanatic for football and baseball. He was an animal lover and could not stand for any animal to be hurting. Ronnie adored his dog, Lacey and his cat, Tennessee. He loved his family unconditionally, had the biggest heart, gave the best advice, and always had a listening ear. “TawTaw” was how he was affectionately known by his grandchildren and their friends who loved and cherished him. One of his favorite hobbies was making nachos for his granddaughter. Ronnie worked at Calumet on the loading dock and started handing out mints to help truck drivers not to doze off while driving. This carried over to his everyday life where he handed out candy at stores, doctor's offices, church and to anyone else just so he could see their smile.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and son, Ronald Bryant Dees.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ethel Mae Sikes Dees; daughter, Donna Dees Bennett & Buddy of Homer, LA; four grandchildren, Holley Hatcher and husband Booth, Wesla Dees Dison & husband Wesley, Brittany Dees and Clayton Bennett; great-grandchildren, Tuff Hatcher, Isabelle Foust, Adam Foust, Anna Perritt, and Kyler Bennett; a special close cousin, Sherry Puckett; life-long best friend, Ronnie Farmer; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Ronnie’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Sam Abshire, Carlee Tabor, Alex Vansickle, Carolyn Brownmiller, along with the loving staff and administration of Presbyterian Village, and the ICU staff at CMMC for the care and compassion shown him.
