Ronald Jay Hixson

On October 11, 2024, Ronald Jay Hixson passed away peacefully in his home that he built with his own hands at the age of 88.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Brenda Sue Hixson; sons, Greg Hixson and Scott Hixson and daughter-in-law, Sharon Hixson; favorite daughter, Romy Meyers and son-in-law, Todd Meyers; grandson, Michael Hixson, brother, Harold Hixson and wife, Pat Hixson; his beloved cats, Max and Molly; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and some of whom called him Uncle Ro.

Ron and his twin brother, Don, were born in Johnstown, PA on December 3rd, 1935, one of 14 siblings of which only one remains.

A proud 26-year United States Air Force Senior Master Sergeant, Ron met his wife, Brenda, when he was stationed at Chennault AFB in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

During his time in the Air Force, Ron served as an Administrative Assistant traveling the world to England, Italy, Turkey and other remote countries. He was an avid bowler and an awesome basketball player. Ron was always there to cheer his children on in the multitude of sports they played. Romy’s softball teammate stated, ‘it wasn’t a real softball game unless Ron was there’.

After retirement, Ron built his forever home with his own hands. Ron loved construction projects and, when he wasn’t working on his own home projects, he happily assisted several family and friends with their home remodels and projects. Needless to say, his favorite TV show was Fixer Upper.

Ron was a wonderful husband, dad, grandfather, sibling, uncle and friend to so many and a devout Christian who loved the Lord so much. Ron could name all the books of the Bible in two minutes or less. Christmas was his favorite time of year, and his neighbors can attest to that when Ron lit up the neighborhood with Christmas lights and decorations for all to enjoy! He will be greatly missed as his memories will live long after in our thoughts and hearts.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 25, 2024, from 9:30-10:30 at Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:30 a.m. Officiating the service will be Justin Haigler, pastor of the Simple Church. The family asks that donations be made to the Simple Church instead of flowers or other gifts. Graveside will follow at 12:30 p.m. with full Military Honors at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 7970 Mike Clark Rd, Keithville, Louisiana.

Friends and family are also invited to a reception at 3805 Eames Circle, Shreveport, Louisiana after the burial.

The family would like to thank the Willis-Knighton Hospital staff and the awesome Elara Home Health team for the wonderful care for Ron and the support shown to the family.

We would also like to thank their wonderful neighbors who are like family and always check on Ron and Brenda to see if they are well and need anything.
