Ronald Neil Maberry

Ronald Neil Maberry, 83, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, December 19^th, 2023.

Ron was born October 17, 1940, in Rotan, Texas to his heavenly mother and father, Govie and Luin Maberry, and was the brother to two sisters, Sandra Combest and Carla Mobley, all who precede him in death. After graduating from Andrews High School in 1959, Ron went on to serve honorably in the United States Navy. Following his time in the Navy, Ron ultimately made his way to Ennis, TX where he met the love of his life, Lois, and began their life together. He would go on to attend the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas where he earned his degree and practiced as a Physician’s Assistant, serving in several roles throughout his career, before retiring after nearly 30 years of dedicated service to the patients of the VA Medical Center’s cardiology service in Shreveport, LA.

Ron was a devout Christian and active parishioner of St. James Episcopal Church. He could be found on most weekends cheering for the Longhorns of UT but was most happy in the stands cheering on his children and grandchildren at their many games and activities. He was an avid reader and loved diving into the latest John Grisham novel, but one of his more recent passions was fantasy football. While he enjoyed Sunday afternoons watching the final putt drop of whatever golf tournament was being hosted, we all know “resting his eyes” on a Sunday afternoon was his favorite part.

More than anything, Ron was a lover of travel. Whether it was spending vacations at the beach with his immediate and extended family or going on exotic cruises with Lois, Ron was always up for an adventure.

While we mourn his passing, we celebrate knowing he is now in the presence of the Lord. Although the lights may have gone out, we know the party isn’t over. It’s just beginning, as we celebrate his life and remember all the wonderful things that remind us of him.

Ron is survived by his wife Lois; his children – Trina Finn (Bill), Tammi Johnson, Cheri Kubala (Julie), Holly Johnson (Adam), Matt Maberry (Robin), Andrew Maberry (Brett); his grandchildren – Jeramiah, Tezra, Jennifer, David, Shay, Mabry, Madelyn, Neil, and Ann Rayner; brothers-in-law, Perry Combest, Jimmy Mobley and David T. Rayner III and a many loving great-grandchildren, family, and friends.

The family would like to extend our thanks to the numerous healthcare professionals who provided  diligent and compassionate care to Ron over the years, most notably the love and devotion he received from his in-home sitter, Keiara “KeKe” Vance, who was with him in his final moments.
