Ronald Carl "Ronnie" Shelton, of Shreveport, LA, passed away on August 23, 2018 in Shreveport surrounded by close family and friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home. Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2018 at NW LA Veterans Cemetery.
Ronnie was born in Minden, LA to Carl and Clara Shelton on January 29, 1949. He was a graduate of Woodlawn High School, Class of 1967. After graduating high school, Ronnie joined the U.S. Airforce. He was the owner of Southside Village Gulf on Mansfield Rd. for 19 years and two other businesses with his wife, Sue, Searchlight General Store in Nevada and Shelton's Trading Post in Texas.
Ronnie is preceded in death by Carl and Clara Shelton; son, Ronald "Trey" Shelton; and sisters, Sharon Stuart and Nita Denby.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sue Shelton; daughter, Paige Shelton and partner Carmel and son Jonathan; sister, Teresa Bays; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ronnie was also known as Papaw Ronnie to Hali Brown, Dayton and Autumn Hope. In his spare time, he loved to fish, golf, karaoke, watch NASCAR, and cheer on his beloved LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints.
Pallbearers will be Robert Melton, Earl Hebert, Jimmy Mancil, Randy Henley, Daly McGowan, Ricky Morris, Bud Shelton, Curtis Shelton, Walter Biel, Michael Burnley, Brian Hope, and Dayton Hope. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews.
The family of Ronnie wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Kathleen and the staff of Amedysis Hospice, all the staff of the Overton Brooks VA Hospital, and to all the family and friends that traveled through this journey since the day it started always being there at any given time.
