Rosemary Barker

A memorial service for Rosemary Kirk Barker, 92, will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Church for the Highlands, 520 Olive St., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Church for the Highlands, 520 Olive St., Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Reverend John Henson.

Rosemary was born August 5, 1930, to Collin Oxford Kirk and Exie Leora Prince, in Point, Texas. She made the transition from this life to her heavenly home Friday, June 23, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was able to age in place at her own home and died peacefully there of natural causes.

She was a retired nurse from the VA Medical Center and was selected as Nurse of the Year on the local and Regional level in 1992. She served as President of the Oncology Nursing Society for two terms. Rosemary was known for her love of taking care of our veterans. One of her many achievements in life was being a published author of a professional nursing journal.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, David Craig Barker; brothers and sisters, Francine, Dixie, Chloe Ann, Bobby, Billy, Mozelle, Betty and Gene; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Denise Barker and son-in-law, Paul David Lerchie. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Susan Barker Lerchie; son, Michael Reed Barker; sister, Caroline Flores and husband, Billy Joe; grandchildren, Brittany Michelle Barker, Sean Michael Lerchie and wife, Mandy and David Scott Lerchie and wife, Megan and great-grandchildren, Collin, Benjamin, Marjoire-Kate, Chloe and Caroline.

The family would like to thank Jacqueline Jackson and her legion of ladies for the love, care and concern for our mother, we couldn’t have kept her in her home without you. Mom loved you!
