SHREVEPORT, LA - A Mass of Christian Burial for Roy Joe Fulco, 93, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport. Officiating will be Monsignor Earl Provenza. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Roy was born June 23, 1921 to Joe Russo and Rose Feducia Fulco and passed away on September 30, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Doris Carstensen, his in-laws, Reuben M. and Mamie D. Woodson, brother-in-law, Glen Carstensen. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 69 years, Martha Woodson Fulco, son, James Roy "Jim" Fulco, daughter, Marcie Kay Speirs and husband, Randy, grandchildren; Mike Speirs and wife, Christina, Tommy Speirs and wife, Kelly, and Susan Bruscato and husband, Brandon; great-grandchildren, Brianna and Ashtin Claiborne, Dylan and Brady Speirs, Caleb, Nathan, Levi and Hayley Speirs and Elizabeth and Joseph Bruscato; also numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Roy was a graduate of Fair Park High school and Meadows-Draughon Business School. Upon graduating he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Roy was a pilot of a B-24 Liberator Bomber during WWII and was shot down over Magdeburg, Germany and spent 8 months in a German prison camp. At the time of his return to the United States he married Martha Woodson on July 15, 1945. Roy and Martha made their home in Shreveport and after working for the Federal Housing Administration for 10 years, in 1958 he founded Fulco Realty Company. He was a member of the Realtors Association and a dedicated member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Roy enjoyed life to the fullest. Through the years he loved fishing, hunting, dancing, waterskiing, and golf. Roy was tenderhearted and generous. He faced many obstacles with grace and humility. After being knocked down, he always got up smiling. He truly believed that laughter was the best medicine. He never missed an opportunity to tell a joke. Roy always said that Martha was the second best thing that ever happened to him. When asked what the first was, he said "My parachute opened." He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Honoring Roy as pallbearers will be Randy Speirs, son-in-law, Mike and Tommy Speirs, grandsons, Brandon Bruscato, grandson, A.W. "Buck" Fulco, Philip Fulco and Raymond Liles.
Honoring Roy as Honorary pallbearers will be Claude Franklin, Ted Newport and J.V. Sclifo.
The family would like to extend deep gratitude and thanks to Dr. P.V. Blanchard and his crew, Vickie, Pam, Jenny and Celia. Also to Naline Salone at Overton-Brooks Veterans Hospital for all the love, care and tremendous support they gave.
