Gibsland - Funeral services will be held for Roy D. Johnson, age 73, at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Gibsland, with Bro. Orvell Bryant officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia. Roy was born March 20, 1945 in Monroe, LA. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at his home in Gibsland. Roy graduated from West Monroe High School in 1964. After graduation, Roy went on to get his associates degree at Northeast Louisiana University. In 1966, Roy joined the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. Roy retired from KCS Railroad with 37 years of service, including Illinois Central, Illinois Central Gulf, Midsouth and KCS Railroads. Roy loved hunting and fishing, was the family Rook champion, and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Roy is preceded in death by his father Kirby R. Johnson and step mother Chlotile Johnson, mother Jewel B. Pierce, and by sister Barbara J. Moring. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara Graves Johnson, son Jonathan Duke Johnson and wife Kala, daughter Thelma Louise Johnson Edgell and husband Kris, son Donovan Jess Johnson and wife Roo, grandchildren, Luke Edgell, Zachary Johnson, Kyrstin Edgell, Jacob Johnson, Joshua Johnson and Jeremiah Johnson, by brother David Johnson and wife Jeannie, and by numerous other family and friends. Pallbearers will be Joey Perry, Steven Holmes, Scott Kidd, Jimbo Jones, Eric Rigdon and Jerry Russell Rhodes. Honorary pallbearers will be the Oak Grove Hunting Club. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Gibsland, PO Box 517, Gibsland, LA 71028.
