Roy E. Lowe, of Shreveport, LA, passed away on March 10, 2018, at the age of 91. Born on August 21, 1926 to Jesse Wingfield Lowe and Minnie Berry Lowe in Minden, LA. He joined the Navy at the age of 17, and then went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from LSU in Baton Rouge, where he became a lifelong Tigers fan. Joining the U.S. Navy was a lifelong dream for Roy. He enlisted in 1944 and served as a Radarman Third Class during World War II in the South Pacific on the USS Pickens (APA 190). The Pickens landed troops at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Roy was honorably discharged in 1946 and then served for ten years in the Navy Reserves. He was a member of the American Legion and the Forty & Eight. Roy was the editor of the Guardian Journal newspaper in Homer, LA for 20 years. During that time he also served as Mayor of Homer for six years where he earned the honor of State Mayor of the Year in 1968. After leaving Homer in 1971, he became an Economic Development Specialist for the Louisiana Department of Commerce & Industry working to bring manufacturing jobs to LA. As General Manager of the Northwest Louisiana Development Center he worked hard to bring many new jobs to NWLA. Before retiring in 1989, he was a life insurance agent for M.O.N.Y. Roy had a great sense of humor, loved his children and grandchildren, and had many hobbies, such as reading (sometimes multiple books a day), vegetable gardening (tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, and more), and posting to his blog (which he started at the age of 83). Roy was a long-time member of Christ United Methodist Church which he considered his extended family. Preceding him in death were his parents, Jesse and Minnie Lowe; siblings, Eunice Lowe Gibson (John) and Jerelyn Lowe Hickman (Loel); and grandson Colin Lowe. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Jennifer Alello Lowe; children, Matthew B. Lowe, Jason A. Lowe, Joshua R. Lowe, Mark R. Lowe, and Jessica A. Lowe; five grandchildren, Tia Palmer, Kyle Lowe, Lily Lowe, Oliver Lowe, and Brighton Lowe; siblings Jesse B. Lowe (Charlene), Jenny Louise "Bit" Lowe Walter (Don), Jon V. Lowe (Kay), Ruth Lowe Murad (Jim) and Carol Lowe Cascio (Frank); and numerous nieces and nephews whom were very special to him. Visitation will be at Rose-Neath Southside on Thursday, March 15 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Mark Goins and Rev. Willis Dear at Christ United Methodist Church at noon on Friday, March 16 with visitation at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow immediately after at the Northwest Louisiana Veteran's Cemetery in Keithville, LA. Pallbearers will be Christopher Cascio, Patrick deGravelle, James Flurry, Loel Hickman, Jr., Don Jackson, Sr., and Jon E. Lowe. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 1204 Crabapple Drive, Shreveport, LA 71118.
