Roy Clevis McCoy, III

A Memorial service will be held for Roy Clevis "Spanky" McCoy, III at 4 p.m. on February 17, 2018, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA. Roy passed away January 15, 2018, at his daughter's home in Colorado Springs, after a long illness. R.C. was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late Roy C "Cotton" McCoy, Jr, and Dixie McCoy. He lived his entire 81 years in the Shreveport area. Roy was an extraordinary athlete. At Byrd High School, he lettered in Football, Baseball, and Track; and was the Southern AAU 3 meter spring board diving champion. The same year, he won the Southern AAU long jump championship. In later years, if not at work, he could be found on the golf course; and yearly visited Aspen, Colorado, where he was a beautiful skier. He also enjoyed flying, and helicoptered many an athlete back and forth to the Bone and Joint clinic. Roy attended Northwestern State on a football scholarship. He entered Centenary College on a baseball scholarship, where he studied physical education, graduating in 1960. He earned his Master's Degree in Physical Education at the University of Tennessee. He then achieved his Physical Therapy Degree at Hermann. Roy married Gervais Ann Williams in 1960. They had two children, Sean and Kristin. Roy's lifelong love was the nearly 50 years he spent at the Bone and Joint Clinic, where he worked with his two best friends: the late Dr. Don Burt, and Dr. William Bundrick. He had great passion, and devotion to excellence, as surgical assistant, physician assistant, and physical therapist. R.C. will especially be remembered for his infectious positive attitude, exceptional work ethic, and his uplifting, positive effect he had on all he encountered. Six years ago, he retired, battling a lengthy illness with great determination and grace. The family wishes to thank his many loving friends for their tireless devotion during his illness. Special thanks go out to Tanya Holley, Clint and Emily Cain, Dr. Bill Bundrick, Janie Lipscomb, Dr. David Dies, Dr. Michael Sewell, Dr. Tom Meister, Dr. James Duffey, and Compassus Hospice of Colorado Springs. Survivors include: son Sean McCoy; daughter Dr. Kristin McCoy and husband Robert Djokovich; grandson Nicholas Djokovich; sister Dixie Burns; nieces Teresa and Michelle, nephews John and Patrick; brother Cleve McCoy, his wife Amber, and nephew Jacob; and brother Michael McCoy.
