Shreveport, LA - Funeral services will be held for Jeanette (Ruby) Thompson English at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 at Woodridge Baptist Church, 850 East Bert Kouns, Shreveport, LA 71106. Officiating will be Dr. Charles McInturf. Burial and graveside services will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fellowship Baptist Church in Converse, LA. The family will receive friends for visitation from 12 noon until service time on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the church.
Mrs. English was born June 25, 1934 in Converse, LA to M.B. Thompson and Myrtle Cobb Thompson and passed away April 27, 2015. She was an active member of Woodridge Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 6 years. She was a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers of America.
Jeanette began work with Southern Bell Telephone Company in Mansfield, LA as a Junior Operator on June 9, 1952. She was transferred to Shreveport, LA in September 1964 and moved to Birmingham, AL in January 1986 where she retired on August 15, 1995 as a manager with 43 years of service. During the time she worked for Southern Bell, South Central Bell, AT&T, and Bell South. She saw and worked with many technological changes during her career. She was selected to Who's Who in World Leadership, 1993.
Mrs. English was preceded in death by her husband Murry English, parents M.B. Thompson and Myrtle Cobb Thompson, sister, Virginia Thompson McDonald; brother, Henry Carr Thompson; grandparents, Gary and Bertha Thompson, Henry and Eunice Cobb; and grandson, Chris Mitchell.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda English Mitchell and husband, Ken of Shreveport, LA; sister, Mildred Blankenship of Converse, LA; 7 nieces; one nephew; several great nieces including Lilly May Cartinez; and several great nephews.
Honoring Jeanette as pallbearers will be Eric Evans, Gregg Shoalmire, James Sheppard, Justin Sheppard, Jeremy Sheppard, and Aaron Sheppard. Honorary pallbearers will be John Meredith, Jimmy Evans, Bob Shoalmire, and Earl Wayne Fleming.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. P.V. Blanchard, MD and his staff for many years of excellent medical care.
