On the evening of May 6, 2016, while surrounded by members of her family, Lucille passed away peacefully after battling serious illnesses for a number of years. She was 88 years old.
Ruby Lucille (Allen) Odom was born in the town of Cason, Texas on October 23, 1927. She was one of five children born to Agnes and Joseph Alvin Allen.
Her siblings were: D.C. Allen of Fort Worth, Texas, R.J. Allen of Coffeeville, Kansas, Opal Mullenix and Lillian (Bootsie) Hunt both of California. Each preceded Lucille in death,
Growing up in a rural area in Texas, Lucille always had a fondness for country living and appreciated this beautiful earth upon which we dwell. She loved her siblings and often spoke of her childhood experiences. Once as a young girl, she sold candy to raise needed money. Her family had meager income and she could not afford to eat the candy she was selling. She and her older brother R.J. were very close. He had a job and when he was asked if he would like to purchase candy from her, he sat her down on their back porch and told her to eat as many candy bars as she wanted and he would pay for each one. There isn't many things greater than true love between brothers and sisters.
She, moved to Louisiana when in her late teens, and lived for a time with Sweetie and Pack Garrard. She loved sweetie and Pack and felt close to them until their death. It was through them that she met C. A. Odom, the man she fell in love with and married on February 20, 1945. She and C.A. made their first home in Forbing, Louisiana, and until their deaths lived in Stonewall, Louisiana.
Her first child, Charles was born February 21, 1946. The second child born to her was a boy and only lived a few hours. Danalda, her only daughter, was born August 24, 1950. The love she had for her children cannot be measured.
Lucille is survived by her son Charles, his wife Janell, their children Heather Dawn and Kimberly Michele; her daughter Danalda, and husband Robert (Bob) Durante and their daughter Alisa and husband, Michael Schutza and their son Peyton; great-grandchildren, Savannah Fuller, Alex, Dylan and Cameron Tubbs and a host of nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
Lucille also held a special place in her heart for close friends and neighbors.
