Ruth was born at home on October 4, 1919 to James Mallory and Emily Jane Simpson Strain in rural Jackson Parish, LA. She died May 30, 2015 at Grace Home, Shreveport.
On New Year's Eve 1938, she married Emmett Preston Jones and treasured every day of their 46 year marriage. She was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and best Oma ever. Since Emmett's career took him many places across the globe. They chose, whenever possible, that the entire family accompany him. She was a role model to her family embracing each new destination as an adventure and opportunity to find new friends and others to serve. She enjoyed volunteering at Broadmoor Baptist Church, gardening, and hosting family and friends around her table. Her fried chicken was THE BEST! Her competitive and fun loving spirit extended from the basketball court at Weston High School, through games with grandchildren, charity fundraising walks benefitting Grace Home, and even to the last five years at Horizon Bay as the fiercest of The Ladies of Aggravation.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emmett; siblings, W.T. Strain, Verlene Strain Kennedy and Amos Ottis Strain.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Jo Layne Strain Conn; sister-in-law, Ruth Smith Strain; children, Judith Jones Bruner (Dr. Jim), Gary Preston Jones (Barbara), Karen Jones Rima (Bob); grandchildren, Brant Jones (Amy), Anne-Marie Bruner Tracey (Eamonn), Dr. Sara Jones Klug (Kevin), Lindsey Rima, and Meredith Rima Garee (James); great-grandchildren, Ella Ruth and Oliver Klug, Iorwerth Tracey, Evie Chase and Elise Jones.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Grace Home for their competent and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Grace Home, Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery Fund, or Louisiana Baptist Children's Home.
