Graveside funeral services were held for Ruth Hazel McKenzie Sherrill, 88, at the Old Athens Cemetery on Monday, April 13, 2015 with Rev. Jerry Gill, officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-7 p.m.
Mrs. Sherrill was born December 8, 1926 in Homer to Jessie Clifton McKenzie and Louise Kirkpatrick McKenzie. She entered into rest Saturday, April 11th at Presbyterian Village Nursing Home in Homer following a lengthy illness. She was a Homemaker while raising her kids. During her working years in the public, she worked for Kenny New, Phillip Sims and Freddie Ackel in their stores in Athens.
Mrs. Sherrill was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Charles "T.C." Sherrill on May 12. 2002; also 3 sisters, Mary Francis Scriber, Hannah Toms and Katherine Davis.
She is survived by 1 daughter, Wanda Smith and husband, Gary of Homer; 1 son, Charles "Dicky" Sherrill and wife, Star of Homer; 1 sister, Peggy Sandlin and husband Terry of Homer; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
