SHREVEPORT, LA - S. J. "Jim" Spell, 89, went to be with our Heavenly Father on October, 4, 2014. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. Officiating the service will be Dr. Tom Harrison. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, LA. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until service time at the Church.
S. J. was born on December 25, 1924 to Sterling Joseph and Elizabeth Droddy Spell. In 1944 he enlisted in the US Naval Service, during the time of WWll, South Pacific Campaign, Invasion/Occupation of Japan, he served his Country until 1946. S. J. earned a BS in Forestry in 1950 from Louisiana Tech University (second graduating class in Forestry). He had a distinctive career in the wood treating and Lumber Manufacturing Industry. Jim was the owner/president of Bolinger Company Inc. /dba Spell Brothers Lumber Co. He was a member and deacon at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA, as well as a life-long Bible student and teacher. Jim was a follower of Jesus in every way, he also was active in the church planting in Alaska, South Dakota, Louisiana and support of Global World Missions. He loved outdoor activities, hunting, fishing, gardening, and travel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Rebecca Emory Spell, son, Alvin W. Gore, Sisters, Jo Young, Lucy "Bee" Maxwell, Elwina Tullos, Brother, O. R. "Ray" Spell. Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Smith Spell; sons, Sterling Joseph Spell and wife, Elizabeth Erskine Spell of Shreveport, LA, Patrick Jay Spell and wife Marsha McIntyre Spell of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Kim Gibbs and husband, Andy, Katie Waxer, Kourtney Bedwell and husband, Travis, Wade Gore, Emory Rhodes and husband, Bryan, Joseph Spell, McIntyre Spell, William Spell; great-grandchildren, Drew and Ridge Gibbs, Saxby and Shelby Waxer, Lassiter and Landry Bedwell, and many other treasured family members and friends.
S. J. lived a full life of faith, love and hope that was shared by all that knew him.
Honoring Jim as pallbearers will be Wade Gore, Joseph Spell, McIntyre Spell, William Spell, nephews, Jim Tullos and Garland Young.
