Shreveport, La- Sadie Erline Jernigan's transition to Glory on Sunday May 3rd was as peaceful and calm as was her nature. Erline was born in Greenville, South Carolina on October 1, 1928. Her parents, Tom and Nannie Brown, raised four children during the depression era and Erline picked her share of cotton.
When she was twenty Erline married a young airman, Jim Jernigan, who was stationed at Donaldson Air Force Base. They raised three children and through the years called many places home. One of their favorite tours was to Chicksands AFB where they were instrumental in establishing the first Southern Baptist church in England.
In 1967 they were assigned to Barksdale. As her mothering career slowed down and Jim began to consider retirement, they opened Shreve Island Bicycle Center.During her twenty-eight years in the business Erline established friendships with many of her customers and sold bicycles to several generations of area residents.
Erline was preceded in death by her husband, CM/Sgt Jim Jernigan and sons Ed and Don. She is survived by her daughter Gloria, son- and daughters-in-law, six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and dear long-time friends from Barksdale, the Bike Shop, and Broadmoor Baptist Church.
Erline is known and will be remembered for her kind and patient spirit, her generous friendship and her unfailing faithfulness in caring for others. She will be buried at Forest Park Cemetery but lives on within the multitude of lives she touched.
The funeral will be private. If you would like to celebrate and acknowledge Erline the family requests that you send flowers in her memory to someone in your life who will appreciate them now.
