A memorial service for Sallie Anne Peterson will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 with reception following in the Church parlor. Sallie Anne passed away after a lengthy illness on January 8, 2017 surrounded by family and friends in London, England, where she had lived for the past twenty-eight years.
Sallie Anne was born on March 5, 1943, the only daughter of Bobbye and Keith Peterson. She graduated from Monticello Preparatory School in Alton, Illinois, and attended Sophie Newcomb College. In 1968, she moved to New York City where she was employed over the years by Eleanor Lambert Advertising, Vogue Magazine, and Mademoiselle Magazine, in various fashion advertising positions. In 1988, she moved to London, England to pursue her lifelong passion for painting and lived there until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her longtime companion, Michael Meakin of London. She is survived by her dear friend, Edward Studd of London, her goddaughter Katharine Eastman of London, her brother Dee Peterson and his wife Carol, her brother Robert Peterson and his wife Ginny, her aunt Emilie Anne Ostendorff, and her nieces and nephews, Sarah Peterson; Robert Peterson, Jr. and his wife Leigh; Keith Peterson and wife April; Connor Peterson and wife Erin; Katharine White and husband John; Dee Hill and wife Melissa; Gordon Hill and wife Bridget; numerous great nieces and nephews; and her dog Bertie.
Sallie Anne touched the hearts of many people and had a tremendous fighting spirit. She loved art, books, good conversation, and weekends in the country and was happiest in the midst of her many friends. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Peterson, Jr., Keith Peterson, Connor Peterson, Edward Peterson, Gordon Hill, Thomas Ostendorff, William Ostendorff and Caldwell Butler.
The family suggests memorials be made to American Diabetes Association, Robinson's Rescue or another charity of the donor's choice.
