Sam J. Burns left this Earth on April 27, 2018 to be reunited with his beloved wife, Patty. Sam was born September 20, 1928 in Magness, AR to J.M. and Ona Burns. He is survived by brothers, Bob Burns and Bill Burns, both of Batesville, AR; sister, Jetrude Moss of Magness, AR; two sons, Billy R. Burns of Sulphur Rock, AR and Timothy E. Burns of Hodge, LA; adopted grandson, James R. Burns of Keithville, LA; five daughters, Donna Kelly of Dallas, TX, Vicki Clay of Cedartown, GA; Jamie Pope of Keithville, LA, Shelly Smith of Shreveport, LA, and Jill K. Burns of Shreveport; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and special friend, Betty Tullis. Sam was a veteran of the Korean War in the U.S. Navy and served on the Shreveport Police Department for 27 years, retiring as Assistant Chief. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at St. Matthias Episcopal Church with Father R. Christopher Heying officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.
