Sam Joseph Peters passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 26, 2021.
Joseph was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on April 12, 1985, to Toni Rich and Joe R. Peters. He was a 2004 graduate of Loyola College Prep, and later went on to attend Bossier Parish Community College, where he majored in Mass Communications.
In 2007, Joseph, along with his younger brother, Scott, became the fourth generation to operate Peters Grocery on Barksdale Boulevard in South Bossier. At that time, he opened JP's Sports Bar next-door and developed a passion for playing pool in the local APA league. He was an avid bow-fisherman in his free time but may be best remembered for his love of driving. Some of Joseph's most cherished times with family and friends were spent either on his boat, four-wheeler or in his Suburban. He loved to be behind a steering wheel.
Joseph was an inspiration to many, showing trust in God's plan for him, even when times were tough. He had the ability to bring people together that might not otherwise mix. His sense of humor and good-natured attitude were a comfort to anyone in need of a listening ear. You could always go to Joseph for honest advice.
Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Joe R. Peters and his paternal grandparents, Sam and Mary Capuano Peters. Maternal grandparents, George and Dorothy Cascio Rich. He is survived by his mother, Toni Rich; his sister, Marijo Peters Jones and her husband, Troy; and his brother, Scott Peters. Joseph was most proud of being an uncle to Madeline Peters and to Lewis, Aiden and Audrey Jones.
He is also survived by his aunt, Sonia Peters Cassidy and husband, Dale; their children, Grant and wife, Liana and Jessica; his uncle, Charles Rich and wife, Lana; along with their sons, Cody Rich and Chad Coffey. Joseph leaves behind a large, extended family, many of whom he referred to affectionately as his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Honoring Joseph as pallbearers will be Grant Cassidy, Jimmy Orellana, Byron Pasley, Brant Peters, Pete Pettiette, Cody Rich, Randy Santiago, William Sirven. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Troy Jones and Cassidy King.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to all Eucharistic ministers who visited Joseph during the past several years, especially Jean Hundley and Martha Fitzgerald. Also, the family will be ever grateful for the love and thoughtfulness shown to them in the last couple of weeks by family and friends.
