Sandra Fontenot Chapman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully at her home on February 7, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. Born on December 21, 1951, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Alther and Virginia Fontenot, Sandy’s life was a testament to love, faith, and devotion.
She married her soulmate, Jeff Chapman, on March 8, 1975. This year would have marked their 50th anniversary, a milestone that reflects the enduring strength and beauty of their relationship. Family was everything to Sandy. She poured her heart into her loved ones, and her grandsons, Will and Jack, were the light of her life. Her son, Niall, was the pride of her heart, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to him.
Sandy was deeply committed to her Catholic faith, where she made an indelible impact on the community. She was instrumental in bringing the local ACTS chapter to Shreveport and dedicated her time to Magnificat and many other church activities. Sandy was a prayer warrior, always praying for those she knew and loved, and she found joy in attending daily Mass.
As a master seamstress, Sandy also ran a drapery business, creating countless beautiful pieces for her clients over the years. Her craftsmanship and attention to detail were unmatched.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alther Fontenot; mother, Virginia Fontenot; and brothers, Charles, Gerald, and Tony Fontenot. Sandy is survived by her loving husband, Jeff Chapman; son, Niall Whatley and wife, Renee; grandsons, Will Whatley and fiancée, Alma and Jack Whatley; sister, Barbara Parris; brothers, Hubert Fontenot and Bobby Fontenot; as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends whose lives she touched.
A special thanks is extended to Brenda and Mark Williams, Belle French, Carrie Wooldridge, Renee Whatley, her Acts sisters and brothers, and the team at Willis Knighton Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Sandy’s final days.
Sandy’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, especially through her unwavering faith, her love for her family, and her service to others. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans, 939 Jordan St, Shreveport, Louisiana.
