Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston, LA at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow the graveside service at The Lincoln Parish Museum at 2:00 p.m. Sara was preceded in death by her parents, George W. Wafer, Sr. and Sallie Riser Wafer; her brothers, George W. Wafer, Jr. and James Wafer. Her immediate family survivors include one niece, three nephews, many cousins, numerous treasured friends, and her loving canine companion, (Dolly). Sara was born in Jonesboro, Louisiana, in 1925 and after moving with her family to Ruston in 1943, she claimed both towns as "home towns." Those who knew Sara best say she was born with a thirst for knowledge and loved challenges. These traits may explain her being valedictorian of her grammar school class and salutatorian of her high school graduating class at Jonesboro-Hodge High School in 1942. She received bachelor's and master's degrees from Louisiana Tech. Employment offered challenges and opportunities for learning to Sara. She worked in the medical field as a secretary to Dr. Marvin Green, Sr. and associates when Ruston's Green Clinic was organized. She had legal secretarial experience while employed by Ruston attorneys Hale Walker and Howard Wright. She also has experience in the religious sector as well as in private mortgage banking. Sara's years as a teacher were challenging and most rewarding. She enjoyed experiences in Claiborne Parish's Harris community and Transylvania and Lake Providence in East Carroll Parish. In 1962, she came to Caddo Parish to teach fifth grade at Creswell Elementary School. The remainder of her teaching career was with sixth graders, retiring from the Caddo system in 1972. Prior to coming to Caddo Parish Sara spent two years teaching children of Air Force personnel in Japan. This experience enabled her to travel extensively in the Far East. She remembered those years fondly. Many friendships were formed by voluntarily helping young Japanese college students with English conversation practice. In a brief ten-year return to Ruston she enjoyed working as hostess of the Lincoln Parish Museum. She enjoyed sharing with visitors the history of Lincoln Parish and Ruston in the lovely, authentic 1890's setting of the Kidd-Davis House. She also wrote articles monthly for a column named simply "Windows" in the Ruston Daily Leader. Sara enjoyed teaching adult Sunday School. In her most recent years in Ruston she was a teacher of the "Willing Workers" class at Trinity United Methodist Church. At First United Methodist Church in Shreveport she has taught the Gleaners class and also participated in United Methodist Women. Sara's family and friends wish to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff of LifeCare Linwood for their compassion and care during this difficult time. It was Sara's suggestion that any memorials go to the donor's choice.Rose-Neath Southside 2500 Southside Drive318-687-1256
