SHREVEPORT, LA - Sarah Jane Dolce Putch, 89, passed away peacefully August 14, 2015. A Mass of Christian burial will be held in Shreveport at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 204 Patton Ave., on Monday, August 17, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Mark Franklin officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave. Visitations will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 15th and 16th at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport from 5 to 7 p.m. both days. A rosary will be held on Sunday at 7:15 p.m. following the visitation.
Sarah Jane was born on January 22, 1926, in Shreveport, LA, to Nicasia "Sarah" Cumella and Antonio "Tony" Dolce, both immigrants from Italy. The youngest of eight children, Sarah Jane was raised by her widowed father and older siblings. They lived above their family grocery store at 1900 Alston Street in Shreveport.
In April of 1946, Sarah Jane married Nicholas Putch. Together they built and ran Southern Music Company. They were hard-working and very successful. Sarah Jane and Nick had four children and were married for 33 years.
Sarah Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sons, Nicholas Putch, Jr. and Denis Putch; four sisters, Joanne Lacy, Francis Dolce, Camille Cole Thomas and Virginia Lacy; three brothers, Martin Dolce, Walter Dolce, and Joe Dolce.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Rita Jane Durio of Lafayette, LA, son, Robert W. Putch and wife, Kristen of Cypress, TX; her grandchildren, Nicholas Putch III, Matthew Durio, Ryan Putch, Nathan Putch, Angela Putch, and Caroline Kryszewski; and eleven great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish Sarah Jane's memory is her beloved friend and dearest companion for more than 30 years, George "Buddy" Hudsmith. Buddy's children and grandchildren were also a huge part of her life and she loved them dearly.
The family wishes to convey its sincere gratitude for the exceptional care that was given to Sarah Jane by her caretakers Pat Mayfield, Peggy Woodruf and the Grace Home.
Honoring Sarah Jane as pallbearers are Nicholas Putch III, Matt Durio, Ryan Putch, Nathan Putch, Nicolas Putch and Alan Kryszewski.
