Shayleen B. Goodwin

HAYNESVILLE, LA: Memorial services were held for Shayleen Bre'ette Goodwin, age 15 at Haynesville First Assembly of God Church on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 10am with Pastor Rodney Gray officiating. Family and friends are invited to arrive early for visitation. Shay Goodwin was born December 18, 2002 in Minden, Louisiana to John C. and Amanda Bailey Goodwin. Jesus told her on May 18th that she would not be here much longer and he came to take her home on Monday, May 21, 2018. Shay was very loving, kind-hearted, humorous and like to keep everyone on their toes. She spent the past four years of her life in and out of St. Jude Children's Hospital after being diagnosed in 2013 with a rare genetic, aggressive brain cancer-Anaplastic Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma. Shay was only one of 10 persons in the nation diagnosed with this form of cancer. She made many friends during her time at St. Jude's. Shay loved reading, writing, singing, drawing and her dog and best friend, Cupcake. Shay is preceded in death by her brother, John L. Goodwin; her maternal grandparents, Earl and Zelda Bailey; and her paternal grandparents, L.W. and Juanita Goodwin. She is survived by her parents, John C. and Amanda Bailey Goodwin; brother, Joseph (Luke) Taylor; sister, Alice Goodwin Deese; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. We are very grateful for the 15 wonderful years God gave us to love, hold and cherish her. Shay was dearly loved and will be dearly missed. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital; Haynesville First Assembly of God Church; or the charity of your choice. The Goodwin family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Brother Rodney Gray and Sister Lori Gray and the Haynesville First Assembly of God Church family; Dr. Clint Butler; Ms. Kyla with Aime Hospice of Minden; St. Jude Children's Hospital; Homer Masonic Lodge #152; Alice Cale; the staff and faculty of Haynesville Schools; Superintendent Bill Kennedy and the Claiborne Parish School System; Uncle Gil and Aunt Vicki McClure; Marie Bailey; Sheila Hardin; and the Haynesville community. Thank you to everyone who called, brought food, said a comforting word and especially prayed for us during this time. If we forgot anyone we sincerely apologize.
