Born January 1941 in Brooklyn, NY to Pearl and Albert (AL) Winer. Unafraid to go beyond limits of the ordinary, Sheila was a woman whose outsized spirit, humor, and love of life touched many. A "Glamour Queen" in her youth, she was a beautiful, spiritual person of deep feeling who would not hesitate to share what was on her mind.
Sheila’s talents were many: with her imaginative mind she was a talented storyteller and writer, professionally an editor and typesetter. Her heart was as deep as her opinions were strong. Sheila became a gentler soul with age. She moved from New York to Shreveport, LA sixteen years ago to be close to her eldest child, Rabbi Dr. Jana De Benedetti and two grandsons.
Sheila will be remembered with love by all whose lives she touched, especially her children, Rabbi Dr. Jana De Benedetti, Erik Lawrence (Denise McMorrow), Dr. Scott Lawrence (Dr. Paula Lawrence), and Marya Lawrence; her grandchildren, Max and Ron, Quinn, Caroline and Audrey, Jasmyne and Cedar; her loving sisters, Patricia Rich (Michael Silverberg) and Carol Winer and brother, Norm Winer (Wendy Rice).
She did not like cut flowers, but if you choose, to honor her memory, consider memorials in her name to B’nai Zion Congregation (www.bnaizioncongregation.org) or a favorite charity.
