Funeral services for Shelby Wayne Mangum, Sr., 78, will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Coushatta, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Officiating the service will be Pastor Cecil Marr.
Wayne was born on September 1, 1946, to Vernon Edgar Mangum and Luvena Reece in Wills Point, Texas, and passed away on January 16, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
For over 40 years, Wayne served as the CEO of Wayne Mangum Masonry, where he led the company with integrity and vision. His leadership not only shaped the organization but also significantly impacted the local construction industry. Following his tenure at Wayne Mangum Masonry, Wayne took on the role of director of operations for Hayco Transport, a position that showcased his expertise and dedication to excellence.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Wayne found joy in nature, enjoying cherished moments fishing and hunting. He also took great pleasure in working with his hands, often found in his shop, creating and crafting with skill and passion. His hobbies were a reflection of his character—patient, meticulous, and deeply connected to the world around him.
Shelby Wayne Mangum, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of hard work and passion, and he will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His contributions to both his profession and his community echo through the lives he touched.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Luvena Mangum; former wife, Norene Mangum; daughter, Cheryl Mangum; grandson, Hayden “Lane” Mangum, and his sister, Shirley Goggins. He is survived by his beloved wife, Hazel Mangum; children, Denise Norris and husband, Mike, Chris Mangum, and wife, Joanna, Brandon Giddings, Shelby Wayne Mangum, Jr., and wife, Naomi, and Eddie Mangum; stepchildren, Dirk Bentley and wife, Joy, and Chadd Bently; grandchildren, Alexis Leshe and significant other, Jett Reinhardt, Cayson Leshe, Tucker Mangum, Bowen Mangum, Bennett Mangum, Dakota Armour, Yuki, Robert, and significant other, Ashley.
Honoring Wayne as pallbearers will be Brian Moore, Mikey Cater, Chadd Bentley, Dirk Bentley, Zdor Blanc, and Zdor Blanc, Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Nicky Hollis and Donald Hooks.
The family would like to express special thanks to the Carpenter House for taking such great care of our dad and providing exceptional comfort during his last days. They would also like to thank Encompass, Willis Knighton Bossier, and Willis Knighton North.
