Sherrie Parlette Conrad Nelson

December 12, 1941 — February 13, 2023

Sherrie Parlette Conrad Nelson

Sherrie was born in Wilmington, DE on December 12, 1941, and hugged Jesus for the first time on February 13, 2023, in Shreveport, LA, her home for most of her life. She graduated from Granite City High School in 1959, a place she made many life-long friends. She was the wife of Richard B. (Dick) Nelson for 46 years and the mother of 4 children and 6 grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

Besides her title as the wife of the love of her life, she was Mama to her children and cherished being called Meme by her grandchildren.  Mama/Meme did her best never to miss a school event, football, baseball or basketball game, golf tournament or hockey game, and even chaperoned a few youth church trips.

Sherrie was a life-long member of Mangum United Methodist Church where she dearly loved singing in the choir and had wonderful relationships with the church’s members and pastors.  Her beautiful voice was God sent and she rarely failed to call her family and friends on their birthday and serenade them with a “Happy Birthday” song.

In 1999, she earned a criminal justice degree at BPCC and joined the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Reserve force.  She especially enjoyed the K-9 force and she and Dick even donated animals for service, while making close friends with all ranks of officers.

Dick and Sherrie loved their friends at their “home away from home” in Pensacola Beach.  She always brought her therapy dog, Minnie, with her and they often enjoyed long walks while visiting with friends.

Her husband describes Sherrie as “all girl; very emotional, full of love and so faithful to me.  When I was down in life, she always supported me 100%.  Once I was broke and she wanted to go back to work.  Once I had to have a serious operation and was weak as a wet noodle, but she was by my side always.  I thank God for my time with her.  We made trips, had fun, worked hard, for better or worse.  She went to see Jesus and I will always love her.”

The family wants to extend it heartfelt thanks to Caddo Parish Fire District #3, “Lake House”, for their professional and quick response and the Willis Knighton North Hospital ICU team of doctors and nurses. They were compassionate, professional and caring throughout Sherrie’s final days, offering her the best of care and so much support to our family.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her husband Richard B. Nelson; her four children: David B. Nelson of Fort Worth, TX; Randy B. Nelson of Hurst, TX; Leslie Cram and her husband Tim, of Benton, LA and Blaine B. Nelson of Shreveport, LA; and her six grandchildren: Matt Nelson and his wife, Madie; Drew Nelson; Marcianne Nelson; Shane Cram; Brooks Cram; and Bria Lynn Nelson.  In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest a donation to Tunnel To Towers.

Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath South at 1pm Monday, February 20, 2023, followed by a church service at Benton Methodist Church, 4615 Palmetto Dr., Benton, LA at 3 pm; with burial at Rose-Neath Cemetery on Swan Lake Rd, after the service. Pallbearers are Matt Nelson, Drew Nelson, Shane Cram, Brooks Cram, Blaine Nelson, and Dr. Ghali Ghali.
