Shirley was born on March 9, 1939, to Norman Hyde and Marie Shirley Hyde in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in Shreveport. Shirley grew up in Shreveport and owned and operated Martin’s Grocery on Highway 1 in Shreveport. She may have been small, but she was the strongest and most fierce woman many had the honor of meeting. She never liked to sit still, and always wanted to be on the move or helping in any way she could. Her kind heart stretched to family, friends, and anyone who she ever encountered. She could talk to just about anyone about anything and make them feel loved. Shirley loved God and going to church. She was always faithfully reading her Bible and listening to gospel music. She will be loved and missed by her family and friends.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Marie Hyde; husband, Jimmy Ray Martin, Sr.; brother, Eddie Hyde; brothers-in-law, Kent Neal and Willard Scott; and nephew, Eddie Scott. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Jimmy Ray Martin, Jr. and wife Amie; daughters, Cindy Hood and husband Keith, and Renee Brocato; sisters, Elizabeth Scott and Marion Neal; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Noel, Amy Lloyd, Jennifer Moses, Martin Reynolds, Tyler Brocato, Marie Martin, and Michael Martin; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members and friends.
Honoring Shirley as pallbearers will be Martin Reynolds, Michael Martin, David Moses, Austin Moses, Judge Bill Kelly, Steve Brocato, and Tyler Brocato. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Roy Harris, Gary Balentine, and Dylan Reynolds.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Broadmoor Baptist Church, 4110 Youree Dr, Shreveport, LA 71105.
