Shreveport, LA - Funeral services for Shirley Ann Vines, 63, will be held 12 noon Monday, January 26, 2015 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Steve Gilley. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time Monday, January 26, 2015 at the funeral home.
Shirley was born November 26, 1951 and passed away January 23, 2015. She was a lifelong resident of Shreveport, LA. Shirley worked 28 faithful years at Doctors Hospital in Shreveport, LA, until she retired. Shirley began her career in the medical field as a LPN and worked hard to earn her Associates Degree in Nursing to become a registered nurse. While at Doctors Hospital she worked primarily in the ICU and finished her career in the emergency room.
Shirley had been an active member of the Believers Chapter of the Christian Motorcyclists Association for many years until her health declined. Even though she was not active she remained friends with the members and was well-known for her tea cakes at all functions as well as the games at the Christmas Party.
Shirley has been a life-long member of Calvary Baptist Church and has enjoyed her current Sunday School Class. Providing Bingo for the Cedar Hill Retirement Home has been a ministry she especially enjoyed. During recent years Shirley also enjoyed quilting and was active with the Sew Much More Ministry group at Summer Grove Baptist Church. She participated in the local TOPS program. She also enjoyed helping with preparations of the Annual Night of Praise with the Price Harris Evangelistic Association.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Travis and Myrtis Johnson and her brother, Tommy Johnson. Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Patsy McFarland and husband, Charlie; daughter, Sheryl McCollister and her husband Clarke; grandchildren, Melissa Tucker, Rachel McCollister, Gina McCollister, Chance McCollister; seven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gloria Johnson; nephew, Christopher Johnson, wife Melissa, children Katy and Travis; and niece, Christy Emerson, husband Wayne, children Briana and Billy. She was loved by many extended family members but has remained especially close to cousins Melinda Larkin, Donna Restivo, and Amy Kemp.
