On Friday, September 27, 2024 our gentle and loving Dad, Paw Paw, brother and friend was rescued by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from the grips of dementia with his family surrounding his bedside.
Simmie was born May 16,1943 in Delhi, Louisiana where he also graduated from Delhi High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served four years on the flight line at Barksdale Air force Base working on and servicing B-52 Bombers. On May 28,1965 he married the love of his life, Carol Ruth Jennings or “Memaw”, as we called her, and never looked back! They were like two peas in a pod, you never saw one without the other. They were both “Neat Freaks” in the kindest expression. You never saw a fallen leaf on their well manicured lawn or a wrinkle in his carefully pressed clothes. His cars were as clean and spotless as he was. He was a true man of faith and loved the Lord.
After the Air Force Simmie or “Hutch” as memaw and friends called him, went to work for Swepco where he was an electrical engineer for a number of years getting called out in the middle of stormy nights to restore power to those affected by the inclement weather. Soon after those years, he was promoted to Supervisor for his department. He had a great work ethic and was very dedicated to his job. On November 28,1969 he and Memaw started their family with who was going to be their only child, Brian David Hutchinson. They loved Brian very much and took him on numerous vacations along with very close neighbors and their children to the beach and other great destinations.
Hutch was a quiet man who didn’t like the spotlight, he saved that for Memaw! But what he did like was watching and carefully videoing his only grandson at the time, Brayden’s every move especially at sporting events in and out of the country. Brayden could do no wrong in the eyes of his grandfather and vice versa. Paw Paw taught his grandson Brayden many things, like how to shoot a gun, a bow and arrow, calling in turkeys and how to be patient in a deer stand for whatever animal they maybe hunting at the time, (even if it was hunting for the honeybuns or other treats that memaw had packed for them in the cooler!) More importantly, paw paw was a patient man always giving of himself unselfishly for all of us, a true example of what a Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather should be, and he will be deeply missed. We take much comfort in knowing that our Paw Paw’s mind is fully restored now and that this is only a short period of separation until we all meet again.
