GREENWOOD, LA - Funeral services for Stanton Atticus Bowden, 74, will be held at 12 noon Friday, January 23, 2015 in Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Chad Hardbarger. Interment will follow in Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery with military honors by the Barksdale Air Force Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2015.
Stan, aka Old Man Stan or referred by his daughters as DOD, was born September 13, 1940 in Logansport, LA and passed away January 20, 2015. He served our country in the United States Air Force as a technical instructor and an aircraft mechanic and was a member of Pinecroft Baptist Church. Stan was a retired sheet metal worker with Local Union #361 and retired as an aircraft mechanic at Continental Express in Shreveport.
Stan had an enthusiasm for water skiing and teaching many family members and friends the sport. He also enjoyed rooting for New Orleans Saints. Stan was actively involved in many activities as long as it included the outdoors, his family and his many friends. Stan was a member of American Legion Post #14 and the Shreveport Yacht Club.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie "Bo" and Grace Bowden; brother, Calvin McCoy; and sisters, Lynette Ginn and Brenda Bowden. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Sue Bowden; daughters, Renee' Bowden, Michelle Boswell and husband, Sam; and Nikki Perot and husband, Powell; grandchildren, Keeley Jordan, Kendall Perot, and J.T. Perot; great-grandchild, Kara Jordan.
Honoring Stan as pallbearers will be Buddy Creech, Richard Booker, Jimmy Ratliff, Powell Perot, Sam Boswell, J.T. Perot, Mike Cassard, and Bobby Akes.
Stan's family suggests memorials be made in his name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Emmanuel Baptist Church or the charity of the donor's choice. Family members would like to extend their gratitude to Chris and other hospice staff at Christus Schumpert, as well as his very patient physicians.
