LOGANSPORT, LA-Olivia was born August 19, 1930 in Ponchatoula, Louisiana and went to rest on October 21, 2017. Most of her life was lived in Bethel Community of Logansport. Olivia, as she was known in the community was mother, homemaker, and gardener. She enjoyed cooking and feeding family and church friends. She and Coy met during their first teaching assignment in Sixth Ward, she as a home economics teacher and he as an agriculture teacher. After raising five children she re-entered the teaching profession, first at Town Country and then Central School at Grand Cane. After retiring from teaching her church and church friends were her life, along with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy D. Hassell of Logansport; son, Bruce Morgan Hassell of Logansport; parents, Morgan and Stella Howes of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; and sisters, Lucy Howes Kuebler and Hilda Howes Taylor, also of Ponchatoula.
She is survived by two daughters, Susie Fair and husband Randy of Mansfield, LA and Laura Ann Nunley and husband Bo of Logansport, LA; two sons, Coy D. Hassell, Jr. and wife Vicki of Whitleyville, TN and Roger James Hassell and wife Kerry of Logansport, LA; nine grandchildren, Dr. Rhonda Fair, Jennifer Fair Green, Julie Hassell Roetto, Thomas Hassell, Daniel Hassell, Jesse Hassell, Michael Jones, Holly Hassell, William Hassell, Wendy Nunley Harris, and Emily Baysee; ten great-grandchildren, many friends and other relatives.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Logansport at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 with Bro. Charles Hall and Bro. Timothy Roberson officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Logansport. With visitation from 5pm-7pm on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Hassell, Daniel Hassell, Michael Jones, Jesse Hassell, David Graves, Carey Taylor and Will Hassell.
