Preceding Steve in death were his parents, Peter and Esma Starts and one sister, Sherlene.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 38 years Dottie Starts; son Kenneth John McDonald and wife Julie; daughters Michelle McDonald Carson and husband Ben, and Tina McDonald McCart and husband Don; grandchildren Brandie Sharpley and husband Chad, Michael Villalpando, Kylie Shaw and husband Stuart, Hollie McCullough, Raylie Hardee and husband Chris, Adam McDonald, Scott Leeper, Dana Leeper, Jousha Carson, Samuel Carson, and Hannah Carson; great grandchildren Caleb Sharpley, Bailey Sharpley, Anniston Villalpando, Michael Villalpando, Jr., David and Kate Shaw, McKenna and Sibley Hardee, and Adam McDonald and wife Ashlee; sisters, Colleta Hall and husband Jack and Marlene Deeds and husband Bob.
