Steven Loran Moore

Steven Loran Moore, beloved father, brother, and friend, died on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. His warmth, gentle nature, and passion for music touched the lives of all who knew him.

Steven was born on May 31, 1952, to loving parents Frank and Jerry Moore. He was the oldest of four brothers and one sister. The Frank and Jerry Moore home was full of laughter at the dinner table, music on the stereo and impromptu gatherings in the kitchen (usually for more eating).

Steven was a gentle, kind, patient man, dedicated to his family…and his music.

Steven loved his children.

Thomas recalls his father teaching him to ride a bike, attending every Cub Scout meeting and camping trip, and patiently guiding him through driving lessons. Steven loved picking out, practicing and performing music just for Thomas.

For Sara, Steven was a steadfast source of support and encouragement, whether accompanying her to daddy-daughter dances or sharing in her musical pursuits. She fondly remembers how he was always present, telling her often, “I’m really proud of you,” through every milestone. In recent years they had begun going on father-daughter dates and to church together.

Cheryl reflected on his obvious pride and love as a father. She recalls his joy at the births of Thomas and Sara, his dedication to sharing in their activities, and his willingness to wear Christmas pajamas for the family photos—despite his good-natured protests.

Steven worked with his father for the last fifteen years of Frank’s life. Steven’s steady presence at their home on Springlake Drive allowed Frank and Jerry to stay in the home they built for many more years than they would have without him. In many ways, his work with his father gave both his parents years of life and independence not otherwise possible without him. What a gift.

Steven’s sister-in-law Debbie recalls his kindness, sweet smile, and the joy he brought to Halloween traditions with the children, filming their “high finance candy trading sessions” with pride.

Michael Miller, Steven’s brother-in-law, recalls that Steven had a remarkable ability to be 100% present in conversations. He was an intentional listener and a very thoughtful gift giver.

Steven’s love for music was expressed through his keyboard and his role as a founding member of the Rockin’ Red Eyes, a band he cherished for over five decades. He also played at Grace Methodist Church, using his musical talents to enrich the worship experience for the congregation.

Steven is survived by his mother, Jerry Lorio Moore; his children, Sara and Thomas; his siblings, Walter (Kelly), Byron (Melinda), Gordon (Debbie) and Leigh Ann Miller (Big Michael); his former wife, Cheryl; twelve nieces and nephews and many friends, bandmates, and extended family who will forever treasure his memory. Also no doubt missing him will be his cherished pet dog Gracie, who had a special place in his heart.

Steven was preceded in death by his father L. Frank Moore, with whom he worked for fifteen years. Steven loved and respected his father greatly.

Services for Steven will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 27, 2025, at Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home ,1815 Marshall Street in Shreveport. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. The service, led by Pastor Sione, will start at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent.

Steven Moore will be remembered for his quiet strength, his enduring love for his family, and the music that filled his heart and home. His legacy lives on in the lives and hearts he touched.
