Sunshine Gremillion Sledge

Sunshine Gremillion Sledge, 83, of Shreveport passed away peacefully at her home on October 23, 2014. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Shreveport, LA. Rev. Dr. William McBride will officiate. Private family burial will be held prior to the memorial service. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. The family will receive friends Friday, October 24, 2014 from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Sunshine was born on July 6, 1931 in Shreveport, LA to Forest and Neta Mitchell Gremillion. She was a devoted member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church for over 50 years. She was a graduate of Fair Park High School in 1949. Sunshine attended Northwestern State University where she met her devoted husband of 64 years. Sunshine is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sidney Gremillion Allen. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Marlin Ray Sledge; daughter, Ann Sledge Porterfield and husband, Michael; son, Ray Sledge and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Jessica Porterfield, Justin Porterfield, Patrick Sledge, Philip Sledge, and Robert Sledge; and numerous other extended family. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Justin Porterfield, Patrick Sledge, Philip Sledge, Robert Sledge, and Bill Sledge. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Clarence Teagle, Sascie James, Exie Angeletti, Brenda Miles, Celestine Johnson, and Paula Goins for their care and compassion.
