Susie Ann Hiller Brewer

Angels came to guide Susie Ann Hiller Brewer to peace from her suffering from chronic illnesses the morning of September 11, 2023.  

Susie was born January 25, 1950 in Longview, TX, and raised in Shreveport, LA. She attended St. Catherine's and St. Vincent’s Academy. She spoke often about her fond memories of SVA, the lifelong friends she made, and her adoration of the nuns who helped shape her religious life and career.

While in high school, mutual friends set up Susie and Dennis. They wed the summer of '69 when they were 19 years old. During their marriage, Susie's Catholic faith rubbed off on Dennis and he converted to Catholicism. Together they taught Pre-Canna, RCIC, and assumed other roles at Christ the King Church. 

Susie and Dennis adopted two daughters: Denise in 1979 and Callie in 1984. She treasured and doted on her two girls.

She began her 23-year career at St. Joseph Catholic School, where both of her daughters attended. Susie taught religion to 1st through 4th graders, coordinated First Communion, and became the Director of Religious Education.  

Her students said she was a teacher favorite and an integral part of their lives while at SJS.  After retirement, she continuously spoke about how much she missed teaching the children.

During her life, she enjoyed collecting angels, scrapbooking, cooking, crafting, gardening, painting, coloring, music (especially The Beatles, Englebert, Kenny G, Rod Stewart, love ballads, and Christmas songs), laughing with friends, making memories with her family, and especially doting on her long-anticipated grandbabies, who will remember her by being told stories of how much she loved them.

Susie is preceded in death by her parents, Leo Palmer Hiller and Mozell Callie Hiller; sisters, Joyce Hiller, Delores McCoy, LaNell Casey, and Nadine Hurdle; and brother, Lloyd Hiller.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 54 years, Dennis Hilton Brewer; brother, Robert “Bobby” Hiller and wife, Mary; daughters, Susan Denise Brewer and Callie Brewer Jones; son-in-law, Jacob Jones; grandsons, Palmer Brewer Jones and Holland Brewer Jones; and beloved rescue dog, Englebert. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. 

She will always be remembered for her infectious laugh, sweet soul, beautiful smile, sense of humor, her role in religious education, and her big heart for her family and friends.

Please join us in celebrating her life on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 1:00 p.m..  A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shreveport officiated by Father Karl Daigle. Immediately following, there will be a visitation in St. Joseph's Family Life Center at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Coushatta Cemetery, 425 Liberty Church Rd. in Coushatta, Louisiana at 2:00 p.m.

Flowers can be sent to Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport. If you knew Susie, she loved flowers. A tree can also be planted in her memory.
