CHIEF T.C. BLOXOM, JR.
On Saturday, July 12th, T.C. Bloxom, Jr., age 84, passed away at his home in Minden. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday July 14th at Rose-Neath Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 15th at Minden's First Baptist Church. Brother Wayne DuBose and Reverend Billy Joe Hawkins will officiate. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
T.C. was born September 3, 1929, in Mansfield to Dorothy and T.C. Bloxom, Sr. At age 9, he and the family moved to Minden. During WWII, while most of the adult men were serving their country, the local fire chief called on Minden High School's male students asking for volunteers to fight fires. A 14-year old T.C. eagerly joined the MFD where he served for 63 years; the last 37 years as Chief. When he was 27, T.C. began working at the Webster Parish Sheriff Office and retired 26 years later as the Chief Deputy Sheriff. For nine years he enjoyed his self-imposed retirement by farming and raising cattle. Then in 1990, he was asked by some local citizens to run for Police Chief of Minden. In a field of five candidates, T.C. won the election handsomely on the first ballot. Under his leadership, the Police Department regained its respect from the community by eliminating the large number of drug dealers operating in Minden. Five terms later, he retired again. This time for good.
T.C. has been recognized numerous times throughout his career: 1956 Jaycees Young Man of the Year, 1972 Minden Man of the Year, 2004 Legacy of Achievement Award from the State of Louisiana, 2005 VFW Outstanding Fireman of Louisiana, as well as commendations from Minden's local organizations for his outstanding service. He is a member of First Baptist Church but has been supportive of every church in Minden.
T.C. is survived by his wife of 22 years, Pam Tompkins Bloxom. Additional family members are his daughter Beverly and husband Dan Caldwell of Haughton; grandson Stephen Oden of Bossier City; brother Don and wife Rachel Bloxom of Minden; niece Alison and husband Alex Fos of The Woodlands, TX; nephew T.C. and wife Casey Bloxom of Bossier City; as well as special friends Carla and Terry Gray of Minden, their daughters Brandy, Mandy, and Courtney.
Pallbearers will be Minden Fire Chief Kip Mourad, Asst. Chief John Tucker, Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper, Captain Dan Weaver, Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton, and Deputy Scott Tucker. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Minden Fire Department, Minden Police Department, Webster Sheriff's Office, and all other first responders.
The family expresses its heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Michael Chanler, nurse Tracy Sandlin, our faithful caregiver Myessha Wardlaw Talley, and to trainer Katie Cappello.
