Thomas Bransford Murrell, Jr.

Funeral services for Thomas Bransford Murrell, Jr. 79, will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Pastor James Snyder of Elm Grove Baptist Church. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tom Murrell went to his reward this past weekend. Tom always took pride in being an honest, hard-working cowman, having good horses and being respected in the cattle industry. He was a hard-working cowman who followed in the traditions of his branch of the Murrell family dating back many generations. Tom was a kind and gentle soul, and he will be missed by his friends and family. Thomas was born on January 16, 1942 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Thomas Murrell, Sr. and Avis Elizabeth Legg and passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021 in Elm Grove, Louisiana. After 27 years of dedicated service, Thomas retired from the Shreveport Fire Department as Chief. Thomas was a cattle rancher all his life. He was involved in team roping and cutting. He won multiple championships in the National Cutting Horse Association. Just days before his passing he showed in Buffalo, TX on his horse, Yellow Metallic, winning a check in the Nov/Non Pro. Comforting last hoorah in the family's eyes. Tom enjoyed his cutting so much. He loved spending time with his many friends and families. He truly loved enjoying time with his breakfast buddies every morning. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his sons, Thomas Murrell III and wife, Tina and Lendon Murrell and wife, Dawn; daughter, Shannon Olmstead and husband, Murray; sisters, Avis Cox and Mary Lola Gouge; brother, Val Murrell; several grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Honoring Thomas as pallbearers will be Paul Hight, Paul Davis, David Womack, Kevin Dunn, Donnie Leflett and Jeff Waites. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jere Grice and Bobby Leflett.
