Funeral services for Thomas Melvin Lockhart, 84, will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Haughton, 105 E. Washington Ave., Haughton, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Haughton Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. until the time of service. Officiating the service will be Pastor Gevan Spinney.
Thomas was born on December 22, 1940, to Joe Thomas Lockhart and Nancy Jeanette Wilson Lockhart in Port Arthur, Texas, and passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Thomas, a proud graduate of Pine High School in Greggton, Texas, dedicated his life to service and community. At just 18, he enlisted in the United States Army, training at Fort Lindenwood, Missouri, and served as a specialist for six years, exemplifying the values of commitment and dedication.
After his military service, Thomas enjoyed a decade-long career at Wal-Mart, where his exceptional skill in assembling items like bicycles and lawnmowers earned admiration from colleagues and customers alike. His strong work ethic and helping spirit were evident in everything he did.
Thomas’s faith and warmth made a lasting impact on his community. As a beloved door greeter at the First Baptist Church of Haughton, he welcomed everyone with a warm smile and a heartfelt "Good morning," delighting children with a gentle fist bump. His joy in connecting with others brought brightness to many lives.
Thomas shared 27 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Nellie Spears Martin, a union marked by love and mutual respect. His devotion to her and to those around him will be remembered with deep gratitude.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia Lockhart Brown. He is survived by his daughters, Sondra Lockhart, Rhonda and husband, Mike Foster, and Heather Clot; stepchildren, Sherry Roberson and husband, Wayne, Michael Martin and wife, Vickie, Vanessa Keith and husband, John, Tracy Wells and husband, Marty, and Kimberly Martin.
Honoring Thomas as pallbearers will be Michael Martin, John Keith, Johnny Keith, Christian Keith, Hunter Wells, and Cameron Wells. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Wayne Roberson.
