Thomas E. Pixley

HOMER, LA: God called home one of His most faithful servants when Buddy Pixley passed away on May 5, 2018, in Shreveport with his loving family around him. His death was due to a massive stroke. Buddy was born in Homer, LA, on March 17, 1940, to Ernest V. and Ruth Brown Pixley. A service honoring his life was held at Wesley Chapel UMC on Hwy 146 near Homer at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Visitation was at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M., prior to the service, with burial at Arlington Cemetery. He is preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Karen Pixley; older sister, Ernestine P. Greene; and wife, Virginia H. Pixley. He is survived by his wife, Sara Jo B. Pixley and her son, Greg Hood and family; son Waylon L. Pixley and wife Janice and family; daughter, Stacy P. Pixley and husband David Pickens; brother Kenneth A. Pixley and wife Saundra; sister Daphne P. Spigener and husband W.A.; the mother of his children, Margaret H. Denton; along with other relatives and many, many friends. Buddy graduated from Homer High School in 1958 and one of his proudest achievements was being a member of the 1957 Homer Pelican "Ironman" football team. He attended Louisiana Tech and worked for several years at Ludlow Plastics. He then went to work at the Homer post office walking a mail route and retired as Post Master. He loved his community and always did what he could for its betterment. Whenever he was involved in a group, he was very active to advance its causes and was usually a leader or officer. Some of these activities are Homer Jaycees, Homer High School Quarterback Club, Lions Club, Claiborne School Board Bi-Racial Committee, Homer Christmas Festival Committee, Gideon's International, Claiborne Parish 4-H Club, a member of MCAT (building ramps at homes for disabled), member and chairman of the board of Homer Memorial Hospital. He made many trips to Mexico to take medical supplies and to build houses. Buddy served as manager of the Arcadia Airport for several years. One of his greatest interests was airplanes, and he and a few of his special friends went to Oshkosh, WI, in his motorhome each summer to the airshow. Buddy had a great sense of humor and was loved by those who knew him. All his family and friends will agree that he was never at a loss for words. The family would like to thank the many doctors who have cared for and been friends of Buddy for years, especially Dr. Cliff Salmon. Until we meet again, rest well, our dear Buddy, You are missed already. Pallbearers were Norman Murphy, Mickey Boyle, Don Kessler, Jim Keene, Dave Dietzel, Dave Fortuna, Jim Slaton, and Jeff Pugh. Honorary pallbearers were the Ironmen, his flying buddies, MCAT members, his Sunday School class, and Doug Efferson. In lieu of flowers honoring Mr. Buddy, his family suggests donations be made to Wesley Chapel Church or your favorite charity.
