Thomas E. Strain, Jr. M.D.

Thomas Everett Strain, Jr., M.D. retired pediatrician, died May 11, 2015 after a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Frost Chapel at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Raines presiding. There will be a visitation after the service in the church parlor. Dr. Strain was born in Dallas, Texas on November 8, 1924 where his father was a student at Baylor Medical School. The family moved to Shreveport when he was two years old and he lived the remainder of his life here except for absences when he was in the Navy during World War II and in the Air Force during the Korean War. He attended Barrett Elementary School, C.E. Byrd High School, LSU and then Tulane Medical School. His pediatric training was at New Orleans Charity and the University of Utah. He practiced for 40 years at the Strain Babies and Childrens Clinic across the street for Willis-Knighton North. He was a member of the American Board of Pediatrics, American Academy of Pediatrics, AMA, Louisiana State Medical Society, Shreveport Medical Society and the North Pacific Pediatric Society. He was preceded in death by his wife Dr. Dorothy Mack Strain, his parents Dr. Thomas Everett Strain, Sr. and his mother Lucy Strain, his brother Dr. James Strain and his sister Lucy Lynn Morgan. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands Lynn Strain Yancey, her husband Stephen R. Yancey, II, their two sons Richard and David. Dr. Carol Clemons and her husband Dr. David J. Clemons, their 4 daughters Susannah Clemons Bicknell and her husband Harold, Dr. Elizabeth Clemons Garrett and her husband Patrick, Dr. Mary Catherine Clemons Lindenmayer and her husband Stephen, Amanda Clemons Johnson and her husband Harry. He had 5 great-grandchildren Jacob, Mary Elizabeth, David, Lucy and Elizabeth and a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws. He would be grateful for memorials to be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105, Providence House, 814 Cotton St., Shreveport, LA 71101, or First Baptist Church of Shreveport, 543 Ockley Dr., Shreveport, LA 71106.
