Vivian, LA - Memorial services celebrating the life of Thurman Lamar Cantley, age 87 will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. August 20. 2016 at Vivian Church of the Nazarene, 1517 N. Pine Street, Vivian, LA. Officiating will be Rev. John Ford, pastor of the church.
Lamar was born in Springhill, LA on May 23, 1929 to Rayford Cantley and Lula McCartney Cantley and passed away on August 13, 2016 at Willis-Knighton Medical Center after a sudden illness. Lamar was a resident of Vivian, LA since 1974. In 1953 Lamar went to work for the Shreveport Police Department and after 20 years of service retired as a Captain. After his retirement, he also worked 18 years for V.I.P. in Vivian, LA. Lamar was a U. S. Navy veteran and a member of the F.O.P. He loved to go camping and fishing with his wife and children.
Lamar is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Denzil Cantley and sister, Edna Pearl Wallace. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Texie Ann Cantley of Vivian, LA.; son, Billy R. Cantley and wife, Pam of Keithville, LA; daughters, Deborah Langford and husband, David, Carol Cantley of Keithville, LA, Emily Cantley and Julie Berge both of Vivian, LA; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Lamar is also survived by his sisters, Ruth Howard of Shreveport, LA and Tena Henshaw of Keithville, LA and numerous nieces, nephews and special friend, Curtis Rose of Vivian, LA.
The family suggest that memorials be made to the Vivian Church of the Nazarene, 1517 N. Pine Street, Vivian, LA.
