Tommie passed away peacefully at home on October 22, 2023 in Keithville, Louisiana surrounded by family and loved ones. He was born in Mansfield, Louisiana on March 30, 1946. His family later moved to Ferriday where he graduated from Ferriday High School in 1964. While in high school, he excelled in basketball and was a strong leader on and off the court.

He then went on to NSU where he received his master’s degree in education. While teaching was his passion, his love of country called him to enlist. He joined the Air Force in 1970 before beginning his teaching career, proudly serving a tour of duty in Korea.

After serving his country, Tommie then embarked upon his teaching career beginning with the Vernon Parish School Board where he taught math and electronics for several years. He then moved on to the Lamar Salter Vocational School where he worked for most of his career and lead the program as director of the school before his retirement.

Upon retiring, Tommie and Rhonda moved to Keithville where he enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Tommie is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Margaret Cordova; and sister, Barbara Suter. Left to cherish his memory is his partner of 23 years, Rhonda Beck; son, Dr. Cory Cordova (Brandee); daughter, Lea Poncho (Derek); stepdaughter, Allyson Liles (Jeff); grandchildren, Olivia Cordova, Genevieve Cordova, Halle Poncho, Tate Poncho, Ana Poncho, Abram Poncho, Ryan Liles, Audrey Liles, Landrey Liles; sister, Doris Williams; and first wife and mother of his children, Liz Descant.
