Velera Gaye Maxwell

Funeral services for Velera Gaye Maxwell, 85, will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Rose-Neath Chapel, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, Louisiana. An internment will follow the service at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave. Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Rose-Neath Chapel.

Gaye was born July 1, 1938 to Eunice Lee Reed and William L. Cantrell in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away Monday, September 25, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

She was an active member of Woodridge Baptist Church of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Her life was devoted to taking care of and being present in her family’s life. A day never went by where her beloved children did not have three square meals a day and a mother that unconditionally loved them. She centered her life around raising her children, making her house feel like a home and helping raise her brother Ronald Reed Cantrell; she would stop anything to bring a smile to his face.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband of 60 years, Larry Day Maxell. Her memory is survived by her sons, Jody L. Maxwell and wife, Susan, Greg W. Maxwell and wife, Sandy and Ronnie D. Maxwell and wife, Linda; brothers, William David Cantrell and wife, June and Ronald Reed Cantrell; grandchildren, Camron and Dustin Maxwell, Shane, Shea, Andria, Fallon and Cody and great-grandchildren, Wesley, Scarlette, Madisyn, Kyan, Leigha, Ember, Judd, Jace, Dakota, Bryton, Nate, Piper, Preslee, Sean, Daylan, Logan, Jack and Colton.
