Arcadia - Vera Whitlock White of Alexandria, Louisiana, formerly of Bienville and Arcadia, died Sunday, September 24, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Alexandria. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Arcadia. Officiating will be Rev. Kevin Boles. Graveside services will follow at Campground Cemetery, Bienville. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia.
Mrs. Vera was born on September 15, 1926 near Bryceland, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard White, her parents, T W and Ivy Whitlock, her youngest daughter, Christy White Sanders, great granddaughter, Evie Ferraro and her brothers and sisters.
Surviving are her children, 4 daughters, Leonora "Nora" Lee (Robert) of Alexandria, Indiana; Verna Wilson (Walt) of Enterprise, Alabama; Marilyn Simpson (Steve) of Buffalo Gap, South Dakota; Anita McDougle (Mac) of Anacoco, Louisiana; and one son, Marvin "Sam" White (Kay) of Woodworth, Louisiana; eleven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Mrs. Vera attended Bryceland High School and later, as a married mother of six, studied and received her Licensed Practical Nurses License, then attended Louisiana Tech University where she received her Associates Degree in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She worked at the Lincoln General Hosptial in Ruston and then after "retirement" in 1995, Vera became a talented painter and also enjoyed quilting and other handiwork (or crafts) for her family. She enjoyed church services her whole life and in her last days she continually sang and hummed hymns about her Savior.
Pallbearers will be Mike Lee, Todd Lee, Eric Wilson, Ben Simpson, Voyt Lynn, Jimmy Morgan, Nathan McDougle, Jeff Whitmire and Shawn Woods.
