SHREVEPORT, LA - A Celebration of Life service for Verna Mae Pollard, age 89, will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, May 8, 2017 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave. Reverend Steve Pettey will be officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home.
Mrs. Verna, a Shreveport native, was born February 16, 1928, to James Ira McGowan and Margaret Unity Whitley McGowan, and went to be with her Savior May 3, 2017. Verna took great pride in raising her 3 daughters, Kathie, Patti, and Janet. She was a perfectionist when it came to sewing, crocheting, knitting, cooking, or whatever it was she was doing. Verna was best known as "MeeMaw" not only to her family, but to everyone that knew her and everyone she met. She was full of love, compassion, and faith; the epitome of the meaning "lady".
Mrs. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, James and Maggie McGowan; her husband of 56 years, Lozan M. Pollard; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kathie Tubbs and husband, Edwin, Patti Collette and husband, Randy and Janet Chaney; her grandchildren, Karen Tubbs Guthrie and husband, Tom, Kimberly Tubbs Griffin and husband, Chad, Kristen Tubbs Gaskin, Samantha Hadwin, Ethan Chaney, Stuart Chaney, Tonya Chaney, Jamie Chaney Gerber, and Kelli Chaney; great-grandchildren, Devin, Tyler, Brenden, Corey, Morgan, Carter, Makenna, Peyton, Wyatt, Hannah, Andrew, William, Jarret, Lauryn, Dylan, and Briella; along with numerous nieces, nephews, that she loved dearly. Also her precious dog, Buddy.
Honoring Verna as pallbearers will be Ethan Chaney, Stuart Chaney, Devin Gillespie, Tyler Gillespie, Brenden Guthrie, and Corey Guthrie.
Honorary pallbearers are Carter Griffin, Peyton Gaskin, Wyatt Gaskin, Andrew Nixon, and William Beer.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at Pilgrim Manor and to the staff at Willis-Knighton North, 4-West for all the loving care they gave to our mother.
