Vernon Ora Gentry

Shreveport, LA - Funeral services for Vernon Ora Gentry, 87, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2015 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Officiating will be Reverend Chad Hardbarger and Brother Harry Forrester. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Southside from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015. Vernon was born July 3, 1927 in Many, Louisiana to Robert Ora Gentry and Zettie Mothershed Gentry and passed away March 23, 2015 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and most of all he was an outstanding man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a long time member of Sunset Lodge 438, was a Past Master. A member of Scottish Rite, York Rite and a member of El-Karubah Shrine, and a member of Sunset Eastern Star Chapter #227, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Shreveport-Bossier Relief Lodge #2. He was retired from Bell South. He enjoyed the outdoors and was true family man. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Irene Brake and son, Robert W. Gentry, Sr. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and faithful wife of 66 years, Elizabeth E. Posey Gentry; daughter, Beverly Gentry Hallett and husband, Charles E. Hallett; grandchildren, Robert W. Gentry, Jr., Jared A. Hallett, Joshua D. Hallett, great- grandson, Trevor Gentry. Honoring Vernon as pallbearers will be Robert Allen, Wendell Collins, James Gentry, Charles Hallett, William Radford, and William Valentine. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Auditorium Bible Class.
