In Loving Memory of Vesta Guinevere Reed, née Moore (1934-2023)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Vesta Reed, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world on May 29th, 2023. Vesta's life was a testament to strength, love, and resilience. Born October 20, 1934, to Frank and Rozelle Moore in Oil City, Louisiana, Vesta was the youngest of three sisters. She met the love of her life, Harold, in early 1950 when his family moved to the area. Vesta and Harold had an instant connection and were married on June 1, 1950. In August 1952, Vesta gave birth to their beloved daughter, Jennie. Family was at the center of Vesta's world. As a devoted mother, she poured her heart and soul into raising her daughter, Jennie. She supported Harold in his career throughout their life together and remained close with her sisters and their families. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in watching them grow and flourish.

Vesta's faith was also an integral part of her life, and she dedicated herself to serving the United Methodist Church. As an active member, she tirelessly volunteered her time and talents. She found great joy in her involvement with various ministries and sharing the message of God's love and compassion. Vesta had a zest for life that was infectious and was always on the go, whether to volunteer at church, attend aerobics, or meet with friends for coffee. She also had a deep love of reading and was often quoted to say she would “read the phonebook if it was all that was available.”

 Vesta's beloved husband, Harold, preceded her in death in 2015. Theirs was a love story that spanned decades, filled with cherished memories and a deep bond of companionship. Vesta is also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rozelle, and sister, Janelle. She is survived by her oldest sister, Elaine; daughter, Jennie Shaw; granddaughters, Stacie Shelley and Stephanie Poyner; and her four great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Memorial Service for Vesta will be held Friday, June 16th at 11:00 AM at First Methodist Church Shreveport, 500 Common Street, Couch Chapel with a reception to follow.

 In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation to a charity of your choice be made in memory of Vesta.
