Violet Heartese Bailey Morgan, age 95, from Heflin passed away peacefully at Meadowview Nursing Home in Minden, LA on June 23, 2016.

Born in 1920 in Hastings, Iowa, Violet traveled the United States in her younger years from New York City where she wrote for Radio and Broadway shows, to California. She continued to win writing contests with her snappy jingles.

She settled at Lake Bistineau becoming a commercial fisherman. Violet also worked at the Army Ammunition Plant in Doyline, but she finally found her true artistic flair when she started \"Violet's Pour House\". She and Joe Woodard traveled to art shows in several states to showcase her beautiful ceramics. Well-known friends included Clyde Connell - abstract impressionist sculptor and Clementine Hunter - American folk artist.

Violet received her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Horticulture from Louisiana Tech University while in her sixties. She loved gardening and her many cats.

She was preceded in death by daughter Belda Olguin Edwards, Odessa, TX and long time companion Joe Woodard, Ringgold, LA.

Violet is survived by 4 children: Bobby Yates of Doyline, LA (whose wife Peggy is deceased) his great grandson Chase Boutwell and granddaughter Chelsie Gregory; Becky Crepelle and husband Jules of Marksville, LA; Belinda V. Gorman of Haughton, LA and Jo Dee Morgan of Garland, TX (whose husband Robert is deceased). Also, special extended family Betty and Robert Stiles of Doyline, LA and Alice Baldree and Phillip La Borde of Minden, LA.

Violet is also survived by grandchildren: Tammy Chelf, Lena Goodwin, Tony Olguin, Sandra Prichard, Michelle Moriarty, Jerry Gorman, Jo Dee Taylor, and Kim Bettevy and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by grandson Rocky Yates and granddaughter Mandy Yates Riggio.

Special thanks to staff and caregivers from Minden Medical Center (3rd and 5th floors) and Meadowview Nursing Home.

Family will greet friends from 1:00PM - 3:00PM on Wednesday, June 29 at Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden, LA. Prayer service follows at 3:00PM.
