BENTON, LA - Virgil A. Formby went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 26, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Betty Formby; children Alan Formby and wife, Judy, Patricia MacMillan, and Deborah Webb and husband, Lex; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and other family. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Donna Sue Formby; son Joe Flowers; and grandson Dustin Webb. Virgil was born in Patmos, Arkansas, in 1927 and led a full and active life. He enlisted in the Merchant Marine at 17 and served during World War II. He later served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, and he worked for the U.S. Marshal's Office for 31 years. He established a business in Benton and served on the Bossier Sheriff's Office posse. Visitation will be held from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Rose-Neath Bossier followed by a graveside service at Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier at 2:00pm. Pastors Robert Beadle and Johnny Banks will officiate. The family would like to thank his doctors and the staff of Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home for their tireless care. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org where a tribute to Virgil A. Formby can be found.
