Virginia was born in Carthage, TX on November 25, 1927 to Earl Clark Suber and Rose Lee Rich Suber, and passed away from a lengthy illness on September 13, 2016. For most of Virginia's childhood she grew up in both the Linwood Hall for Girls and The Genevieve Orphanage in Shreveport, and that is where she met the love of her life, Tillman B. Franks. Virginia was a proud graduate of C.E. Byrd High School in 1943. They married in 1946 and had 60 wonderful years together before Tillman passed away in 2006. Virginia was an award winning artist, her specialty was oil paintings. She was also a great seamstress and made beautiful clothes for her children and grandchildren. Virginia loved to sing, especially with her husband Tillman and their son Ben for many years. She even made a music CD that she was so proud of. As for her grandchildren, they will especially remember the care their grandma gave to them when they were little. She made each and every grandchild feel they were special. While her husband was on the road travelling across the country, Virginia was at home making sure their children were raised in church and going to countless activities with them. Virginia was the Matriarch of her family and she will be truly missed.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Rose Lee Suber, her loving husband of 60 years, Tillman Ben Franks, sister, Marguerette Rose Suber, and son-in-law, Wesley Browning. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, George Watson Franks II and wife Rita, Tillman Ben Franks, Jr. and wife Tonya; daughters, Darlene Pace Launius and husband, Kenneth, and Carolyn Browning; grandchildren, Joe Pace, Virginia Laughlin, John Browning, Jeremy Franks, Jonathan Franks, Jacob Franks, Sarah Shirley, and Melissa Renstrom; 18 precious great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family, who will miss her dearly.
Honoring Virginia as pallbearers will be Joe Pace, Jeremy Franks, Jonathan Franks, Jacob Franks, John Browning, Derrel Franks, Eddie Ray Franks and Kent Gill.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Jan Launius, a dedicated, loving caregiver, and the staff at Heritage Manor Stratmore and Life Path Hospice.
